Community Notice: Major Sunday Road Closures and Public Consultations

Public Notice: Mooloolaba Triathlon Road Closures
Residents and visitors are advised of significant road closures scheduled for Sunday, 5 April 2026, to facilitate the 34th annual Mooloolaba Triathlon. Major thoroughfares will be restricted or entirely closed to ensure the safety of over 4,400 participants. The Sunshine Motorway will experience a total closure between Pacific Paradise and the Coolum/Yandina roundabout from 5:00 am to 12:00 pm. Additionally, the southbound lanes of the Sunshine Motorway from Pacific Paradise to Mooloolaba Road will be closed during the same window.
In the Mooloolaba area, motorists should expect the following closures:
- Mooloolaba Esplanade: Closed between River Esplanade and Buderim Avenue from 4:30 am to 2:45 pm.
- Brisbane Road: Closed between Walan Street and Mooloolaba Esplanade from 4:30 am to 11:00 am.
- Buderim Avenue: Partial closures between Mooloolaba Esplanade and the Sunshine Motorway starting from 5:00 am.
- Alexandra Parade: Impacted between Buderim Avenue and Sixth Avenue until 1:45 pm.
Council recommends planning travel well in advance and utilizing alternative routes where possible. Local access for residents will be maintained under the direction of traffic controllers.
Rail Network Disruptions
Translink has confirmed that major track upgrades will continue this Sunday as part of the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade. Buses will replace train services between Gympie North and Caboolture stations throughout the day. Commuters should allow for significantly longer travel times and check the updated Sunday timetable before departing.
Ongoing Road Maintenance and Infrastructure Works
Several local maintenance projects remain active this weekend. In Woombye, the Blackall Range Road Bridge is undergoing essential maintenance with traffic management in place. In Nambour, ancillary works continue on Currie Street; motorists are urged to follow all posted signage. Furthermore, Moffat Road in the Glass House Mountains remains closed to through-traffic between Steve Irwin Way and Anderson Road for long-term construction.
Invitation for Public Comment
The Sunshine Coast Council invites the community to provide feedback on the preliminary documentation for the new transport link between Omrah Avenue and Nicklin Way. This proposed 1.6-kilometre corridor is a critical project for the Caloundra district. Documentation is currently on display at the Maroochydore and Caloundra Customer Contact Counters. The public comment period remains open until 5:00 pm on Friday, 10 April 2026.
