Overview for Wednesday, March 25, 2026

Good morning, Sunshine Coast commuters. As we move into the middle of the week, several significant infrastructure projects and localized roadworks are set to impact travel times across the region. Motorists are advised to plan for extra travel time, particularly on the southern corridors and through the Maroochydore CBD.

Major Arteries and Highway Updates

The most significant impact remains on Steve Irwin Way. As part of the ongoing Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade (Stage 1), construction activities are concentrated between Beerburrum and Beerwah. Motorists should expect changed traffic conditions and increased worker vehicle movements near Endeavour Road and Roys Road. Traffic controllers are on-site during standard day hours (6:00 AM to 6:00 PM), and reduced speed limits are in effect. While the Bruce Highway is flowing relatively well, the heavy volume of vehicles diverted or merging near these rail works often causes morning congestion.

Local Roadworks and Lane Reductions

  • Buderim: Lane reductions are currently in place at 89 Wises Road. These works are scheduled to continue through March 31, so expect minor delays during peak school and work drop-off times.
  • Maroochydore: The northbound closure of First Avenue between Aerodrome Road and the Esplanade continues. Traffic is being detoured via Aerodrome Road and Second Avenue. This long-term project is significantly affecting local access to the beachfront and Maroochydore business hub.
  • Dicky Beach: Cooroy Street remains closed to through traffic between Coochin Street and Beerburrum Street. Commuters should continue using the established detour via Coonowrin Street.
  • Bokarina: Work on Dune Vista Drive near Beachcomber Court has led to lane restrictions. Detours are active via Magnolia, Camelia, and Thunderbird Drive.

Public Transport and Service Alerts

Public transport users, particularly those relying on school services, should be aware of several stop closures. CDC Queensland has confirmed that bus stop 313907 is closed today, with passengers redirected to alternative stops on Beerburrum Street. Additionally, routes 5541, 5551, and 5702 are operating under detour due to the Dicky Beach roadworks. Translink advises that rail services on the Sunshine Coast line are running to schedule, but commuters should check the MyTranslink app for real-time updates on bus connecting services which may be caught in roadwork-related congestion.

Commuter Advice

To avoid the heaviest delays, we recommend utilizing the Sunshine Motorway where possible to bypass local bottlenecks in Buderim and Maroochydore. If your route includes Steve Irwin Way, allow an additional 10 to 15 minutes of travel time during the morning peak.
