The Monday Reset

Good morning, Sunshine Coast. If you feel like the region is moving at a slightly different pace this morning, you aren't alone. We are waking up to a much quieter coastline following one of the most action-packed weekends in our recent history. From the final waves of the Noosa Festival of Surfing to the purple sea of supporters at the Epic Walk for DV in Maroochydore, the energy across the Coast has been electric. While the thousands of athletes from the Mooloolaba Triathlon have mostly packed up, the sense of community pride remains high. Today is about finding our rhythm again as we transition from a weekend of spectacle to a week of significant local progress.

Talking Point: Milestones for 'The Wave' and Road Upgrades

Infrastructure remains the word on everyone's lips this week. Local residents should take note of the significant milestones reached on three generational transport projects designed to 'get the Coast moving.' Premier David Crisafulli and Mayor Rosanna Natoli recently hailed the progress of 'The Wave'—the direct rail extension project—which has moved into a critical final round of geotechnical works at the future site of Aroona Station. This brings us one step closer to seeing a dual-track rail connection between Beerwah and Birtinya.

Simultaneously, the Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade (CTCU) has opened construction tenders for the section between Nicklin Way and Third Avenue. This project is specifically designed to bypass the notorious gridlock at the Pelican Waters Boulevard intersection. With early works also well underway for the Mooloolah River Interchange, the focus today is firmly on how these interconnected projects will reshape our commute before the decade is out.

Feel-Good: Taking Local Innovation to the Skies

In a major win for local industry, Sunshine Coast-based McDermott Aviation has officially moved from being the world’s largest operator of Bell 214 helicopters to becoming a global manufacturer. Announced recently at the Verticon conference, the company is launching a manufacturing plan to supply the McDermott 214ST platform globally from their local base. It is a massive vote of confidence in our region's skilled workforce and positions the Sunshine Coast as a heavyweight in the international aviation sector. It’s a classic story of a local business growing from humble beginnings in 1982 to a world leader in aerial firefighting and disaster response.

What’s Happening Today?

  • Harvest to Hospitality: For those in our thriving food and beverage sector, the Food & Agribusiness Network (FAN) is hosting its 'Harvest to Hospitality' industry tasting event today. It’s a curated opportunity for local producers to get their products in front of the region's top chefs and venue operators.
  • Commuter Reminder: Watch for minor traffic adjustments around the Mooloolah River Interchange as early works continue near Mountain Creek and Mooloolaba.
