Commuter Outlook for Wednesday, April 1, 2026

Sunshine Coast motorists should prepare for several active roadwork sites and changed traffic conditions across the region today, Wednesday, April 1. While major highway arteries remain flowing at peak hours, localized disruptions in Nambour, Alexandra Headland, and the Glass House Mountains are expected to add time to the morning and afternoon school runs.

Major Roadwork Hotspots

Several council-led rehabilitation and maintenance projects are currently underway, impacting key local connectors. Commuters should keep the following sites in mind:

  • Currie Street, Nambour: Ongoing ancillary works are active today. Motorists should expect lane narrowings and some delays through the Nambour CBD as this three-week project continues its progress.
  • Sahara Road, Glass House Mountains: Road resealing works began earlier this week and remain active today. Traffic controllers are on-site, and a reduced speed limit is in effect.
  • Janet Street, Alexandra Headland: Significant road rehabilitation is nearing its final stages. While access remains for residents, through-traffic may experience minor delays.
  • Latcham Drive, Little Mountain: Resealing work continues in Division 1, with intermittent lane closures expected throughout the day.

Night Works and Permanent Closures

For those traveling during the evening or on major state-controlled roads, be aware of the following persistent impacts:

  • Mooloolaba Road, Buderim/Mooloolaba: Ongoing intersection upgrades are currently in the night-work phase. Lane closures and heavy machinery will be active tonight from 7:00 pm until 6:00 am Thursday. Motorists are advised to follow signage and watch for light-barriers and dust.
  • Moffatt Road, Glass House Mountains: This road remains closed to all through-traffic between Steve Irwin Way and Anderson Road as part of long-term infrastructure upgrades. Detours are clearly marked via the Bruce Highway.
  • Steve Irwin Way: Increased heavy vehicle movements are expected between Beerburrum and Beerwah as construction on the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade Stage 1 ramps up.

Public Transport and Rail Alerts

While the Sunshine Coast rail line is operating on a normal Wednesday schedule today, commuters heading toward Brisbane should note a major evening closure of the Inner Northern Busway starting tonight. TransLink has advised that several bus routes will be diverted after 7:00 pm.

Additionally, a temporary stop closure on Armstrong Road in Loganlea takes effect today, April 1, which may impact those using connecting services in the southern corridor. Looking ahead, commuters are reminded that significant track closures for the Sunshine Coast line are scheduled to begin this Friday, April 3; today is the ideal time to finalize alternative travel plans for the upcoming weekend.

Driver Safety Advice

With worker vehicle movements increasing near major construction zones like the Mooloolah River Interchange, drivers are urged to adhere strictly to posted speed limits. Traffic controllers are active across the region to ensure the safety of both crews and motorists. Allow an additional 10 to 15 minutes if your route involves Nambour or the coastal strips today.
