Official Notice: Easter Weekend Service Disruptions and Public Consultations

Public Service Announcement: Easter Weekend Rail Disruptions
Sunshine Coast residents and visitors are advised of significant disruptions to the regional rail network scheduled for Saturday, 4 April 2026. Translink has confirmed a major track closure affecting the Sunshine Coast line as part of the ongoing Cross River Rail project and the Beerburrum to Nambour Stage 1 upgrade. This closure will remain in effect from the first service on Friday, 3 April, until the final service on Monday, 6 April 2026.
During this period, train services will be suspended, and rail-replacement buses will be operational. Commuters traveling toward Brisbane or connecting to the Brisbane Airport are urged to allow an additional 45 to 60 minutes for their journey. Translink recommends checking the journey planner via the official app before departing, as secondary connections may be impacted by heavy holiday road traffic.
Council Notice: Caloundra Transport Link Public Comment
Sunshine Coast Council, in partnership with the Department of Transport and Main Roads, is currently inviting public comment on the proposed Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade. The project involves a new 1.6-kilometre road and active transport link between Omrah Avenue and Nicklin Way. This corridor is designed to provide a strategic connection between the Caloundra CBD and major planned infrastructure.
Official documentation addressing the project’s potential impact on Matters of National Environmental Significance (MNES)—specifically relating to local Koala populations and the Moreton Bay Ramsar Site—is now on display. Residents can view these documents at the Maroochydore and Caloundra Customer Contact Counters. The period for written submissions remains open until 5:00 pm on Friday, 10 April 2026.
Waste and Recycling Services
Despite the Easter Saturday holiday, Sunshine Coast Council has confirmed that all domestic general waste, recycling, and garden organics collection services will continue as normal. Residents whose collection day falls on Saturday, 4 April, are reminded to place their bins at the kerbside by 6:00 am to ensure service. Waste transition stations and resource recovery centres will maintain standard operating hours, though increased wait times are expected due to the holiday weekend.
Planning and Development: Hotel Incentive Measures
The Council wishes to remind stakeholders that the Temporary Local Planning Instrument (TLPI) No. 1 of 2025 regarding Accommodation Hotel Incentive Measures remains active. This instrument, which applies to the Maroochydore and Caloundra centre areas, provides targeted provisions to encourage the development of upscale accommodation. Eligible projects may benefit from adjusted building height allowances and reduced on-site parking requirements. These measures are scheduled to remain in effect until April 2027 unless repealed earlier.
Community Safety and Events
The Sunshine Coast will host the 'Sunny Side Up' music festival at the Aussie World Complex in Palmview this Saturday. While this is a private event, a high volume of traffic is anticipated along the Bruce Highway and Downunder Drive throughout the day. Local motorists should expect minor delays and are encouraged to exercise caution in the vicinity of the precinct.
