Public Notice: Community Consultations and Essential Infrastructure Works

Official Council Notice: Picnic Point Parking Survey
Sunshine Coast Council is currently seeking community feedback regarding proposed adjustments to parking controls and overnight camping regulations at Picnic Point Esplanade, Maroochydore. Following reports of illegal camping and concerns over residential parking availability, Council has outlined three primary options for the area. These include maintaining current restrictions, implementing four-hour parking limits on the foreshore side, or applying four-hour limits to both sides of the street. Residents and visitors are encouraged to have their say to help guide future policy decisions. Submissions for this survey will officially close at 5:00 PM on Monday, March 23, 2026.
Infrastructure Alert: Road Rehabilitation and Resealing
Maintenance and essential road works are active across several divisions this week. Residents are advised of the following schedules:
- Alexandra Headland: Major road rehabilitation continues on Janet Street. This project commenced on March 16 and is expected to last approximately three weeks, weather permitting.
- Buderim: Intensive road resealing is underway on Cumberland Way, Burnett Lane, and Rainforest Sanctuary. These works, which began mid-March, are part of a two-week program to improve surface longevity and safety.
- Little Mountain: Preparations are beginning for night works on Latcham Drive, scheduled to start on Monday, March 23.
Motorists are reminded to follow all traffic management directions and allow extra travel time when passing through these work zones. Access for local residents will be maintained throughout the construction periods.
Public Health and Safety: Floodwater Awareness
In light of recent seasonal conditions, Sunshine Coast authorities are reiterating critical safety warnings regarding road safety during wet weather. Public service announcements remind drivers that as little as 15cm of moving water can cause a vehicle to lose traction and be swept away. Residents are urged to avoid driving through any flooded roadways—if it’s flooded, forget it.
Grants and Community Recognition Programs
The Sunshine Coast Council is currently accepting applications for the Regional Arts Development Fund (RADF) grants. This program supports local artists and cultural projects that enhance the region's creative landscape. Additionally, nominations are officially open for the 2026 Sunshine Coast Biosphere Awards. These awards recognise individuals and businesses demonstrating excellence in sustainability and environmental conservation within our UNESCO-recognised biosphere.
Land Valuation Notices
Property owners are reminded that the Queensland Valuer-General issued new land valuations on March 11, 2026. These valuations, reflecting market conditions as of late 2025, will take effect for rating purposes on June 30, 2026. Council has noted that a change in land value does not automatically result in a corresponding change in rates, and extensive modelling will be conducted prior to the June budget meeting.
