Public Notice: Easter Monday Service Updates and Safety Advisories

Sunshine Coast Council has issued several public notices regarding service adjustments and safety protocols for Monday, 6 April 2026, in observance of the Easter Monday public holiday. Residents and visitors are encouraged to review these official updates to ensure a safe and seamless holiday experience across the region.

Council Office and Library Closures

All Sunshine Coast Council customer service centers and administrative offices will be closed on Easter Monday. Normal business hours are scheduled to resume on Tuesday, 7 April. For urgent matters or council-related emergencies, the 24-hour customer service line remains operational at 07 5475 7272. Residents are reminded that while physical offices are closed, many council requests can still be lodged through online portals.

  • Libraries: All branch libraries and the Mobile Library service will be closed for the duration of the public holiday. Digital resources, including e-books, e-magazines, and streaming services, remain accessible 24/7 via the council’s e-library platform.
  • Service Counters: Physical counters in Maroochydore, Caloundra, and Nambour are closed. Foyer access to automated services may also be restricted.

Waste and Recycling Collections

Despite the public holiday, kerbside waste, recycling, and garden organics collection services will proceed as per the regular schedule. Council advises residents to ensure their bins are placed at the kerbside by 6:00 am to avoid missed collections, as contractor routes may vary slightly during holiday periods. Resource recovery facilities remain open for general use, though residents should check specific site hours for regional transfer stations.

Beach Safety and Lifeguard Patrols

With high visitor numbers expected across the long weekend, professional lifeguard patrols are active across the coastline. Seasonal patrol services are currently in effect for the Easter holiday period at locations including Bulcock Beach and Happy Valley. Swimmers are strongly urged to only enter the water between the red and yellow flags and to check local conditions before heading out. Lifeguards remind the public that conditions can change rapidly during autumn swells.

Operation Sandstorm: Driver Safety Warning

Queensland Police and the Queensland Parks and Wildlife Service (QPWS) have launched Operation Sandstorm to monitor beach driving behavior. Authorities are targeting "Fatal Five" factors—speeding, seatbelts, distraction, fatigue, and impaired driving—specifically at Noosa North Shore, Teewah Beach, and Double Island Point. Aerial assets and mobile patrols are being deployed to enforce road rules on the sand. Beachgoers are encouraged to report dangerous driving to Policelink.

Noise and Construction Regulations

Under local law, building and construction work that produces audible noise is prohibited on public holidays. This restriction applies to all residential and commercial sites across the Sunshine Coast on Easter Monday. Residents are asked to respect the holiday peace, as compliance officers will be monitoring reports of unauthorized noise activity.
