Official City Notice: Major Rail Network Shutdown
Sunshine Coast residents and commuters are advised of a significant rail network shutdown commencing Friday, 3 April 2026. As part of the Beerburrum to Nambour Stage 1 upgrade and the installation of a new digital signalling system, Translink has confirmed that the Sunshine Coast line will be impacted by major track closures. During this period, buses will replace train services between Gympie North and Caboolture stations.
- Duration: From the first service on Friday, 3 April, until Sunday, 26 April 2026.
- Impact: Commuters should expect significantly longer travel times, with replacement bus services adding up to 90 minutes to journeys, particularly those connecting to Brisbane Airport.
- Advice: Passengers are urged to plan their journeys in advance via the Translink website and allow for substantial delays during the Easter holiday period.
Road Closure Alert: Mooloolaba Triathlon and Local Maintenance
Several key thoroughfares will be subject to closures and traffic diversions this weekend for the 34th annual Mooloolaba Triathlon. Initial closures will begin on the afternoon of Friday, 3 April, to facilitate event setup. Impacted areas include:
- Mooloolaba: Parkyn Parade, Brisbane Road, Mooloolaba Esplanade, and First Avenue.
- Alexandra Headland: Buderim Avenue and Alexandra Parade.
- Local Works: In addition to event-related closures, essential road maintenance is currently underway at the Blackall Range Road Bridge in Woombye. These works commenced on 2 April and are expected to continue for two weeks, weather permitting.
Public Consultation: Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade
Sunshine Coast Council, in partnership with the Queensland Government, invites public comment on the Preliminary Documentation for the Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade Project. The documentation addresses potential impacts on Matters of National Environmental Significance under the EPBC Act. The display period is active until 5:00 PM, Friday, 10 April 2026.
