Roadworks in Alexandra Headland and Buderim Highlight Friday Commute

Morning Traffic Overview
Good morning, Sunshine Coast. As we head into Friday, March 27, 2026, commuters can expect relatively clear conditions across the major highway networks, though several local road rehabilitation projects are reaching their peak activity this week. If you are heading towards the Bruce Highway or the Sunshine Motorway, travel times remain within normal ranges for the morning peak, but secondary routes in Buderim and Alexandra Headland require extra caution.
Key Roadworks and Local Delays
Several council-led projects are currently active, with motorists advised to allow for an additional five to ten minutes of travel time in the following areas:
- Alexandra Headland: Rehabilitation work continues on Janet Street. This project is in its second week, and residents should expect restricted vehicle movements and temporary lane closures throughout the day.
- Buderim: Lane reductions remain in place on Wises Road near the commercial precinct. These works are scheduled to continue through the end of the month, so expect slow-moving traffic during the school drop-off period. Additionally, road resealing in the Rainforest Sanctuary area is nearing completion; however, traffic controllers are still on-site to manage flow.
- Little Mountain: Commuters using Latcham Drive should watch for crews performing road reseals. Speed limits have been reduced to 40km/h in active zones.
- Glass House Mountains: Initial preparations for road reseals on Sahara Road are beginning, which may lead to intermittent stoppages for local traffic.
Major Arteries: Bruce Highway and Steve Irwin Way
On the Bruce Highway, traffic is flowing well between Caloundra Road and the Gateway Motorway. However, motorists using Steve Irwin Way as an alternative route should remain alert. Ongoing construction related to the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade Stage 1 continues to bring heavy vehicle movements and changed traffic conditions between Beerwah and Glass House Mountains. Please adhere to the temporary signage and watch for workers near the rail corridor.
Public Transport and Rail Alerts
For those relying on the Sunshine Coast Line, trains are currently running to a near-normal Friday timetable. While services are stable today, Translink has issued a pre-emptive alert for the upcoming weekend. A weekend track closure is scheduled to begin tomorrow, Saturday, March 28, affecting inner-city and Ferny Grove lines, which may impact those planning to travel into Brisbane early. Additionally, rail users should keep in mind the major Easter track closures starting next Friday, April 3.
Evening Event Notice
Looking ahead to the evening, localized congestion is expected near Venue 114 and Lake Kawana as patrons arrive for the 'Ovation' performance featuring Marina Prior and David Hobson. If you are not attending the event, we recommend avoiding Sportsmans Parade between 6:30 pm and 7:30 pm to avoid minor delays.
