Essential Infrastructure and Roadworks

Sunshine Coast Council has announced several key infrastructure projects and road maintenance works commencing today, Monday, 30 March 2026. Residents and commuters are advised to plan their journeys and allow for potential delays in the following areas:

  • Currie Street, Nambour: Ancillary works are scheduled to begin today. This project is expected to take approximately three weeks to complete, weather permitting. Traffic management will be in place to ensure pedestrian and motorist safety.
  • Sahara Road, Glass House Mountains: Essential road reseal works will commence tonight. These night works are scheduled between 6:00 pm and 5:00 am to minimize daytime traffic disruption. The project is slated for a two-week duration.
  • Janet Street, Alexandra Headland: Ongoing road rehabilitation continues this week. Motorists are reminded to follow all detours and signage in the area.
  • Latcham Drive, Little Mountain: Night-time road resealing remains underway, with works expected to conclude by the end of the week.

Public Consultation: Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade

Community members are invited to review the preliminary documentation for the Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade (CTCU). In accordance with the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 (EPBC Act), documentation addressing the project’s potential impacts on matters of national environmental significance is now on public display.

The display period runs from Thursday, 26 March, through to Friday, 10 April 2026. Materials can be viewed at the Council’s Maroochydore and Caloundra Customer Contact Counters. Submissions must be received in writing by 5:00 pm on 10 April.

Environmental and Planning Updates

Following last week’s Ordinary Meeting, Council has officially endorsed an application for international designation of the Sunshine Coast Hinterland as a Dark Sky Reserve. The proposed 900-square-kilometre area in the Mary River catchment aims to protect the region's natural night skies. Residents in the hinterland may see future updates regarding the Lighting Management Plan as the application progresses with DarkSky International.

Public Health and Safety Advisory

In response to recent weather events, the Queensland Government has activated personal hardship assistance for residents affected by Tropical Low 29U and related flooding. Communities across the region that have experienced significant inundation are encouraged to contact the Community Recovery Hotline or visit the local disaster dashboard for eligibility details regarding emergency grants.

With the historic launch of international flight services at Sunshine Coast Airport this past weekend, travelers are also reminded to stay updated on current biosecurity and health requirements for arrivals from Singapore and Bali. Information is available via the Queensland Health and Department of Agriculture portals.
