A Cultural Milestone and Literary Love on the Sunshine Coast

Monday, 9 February 2026, marks a significant day for the Sunshine Coast’s cultural landscape. Whether you are an art aficionado looking to explore decades of regional history or a bookworm ready to celebrate the written word, today offers several verified local events to fill your schedule. From major anniversary exhibitions to community-focused library initiatives, there is plenty to see and do across the region.

Marking Time: 30 Years of Art at UniSC

Today marks the grand opening of a major milestone exhibition at the University of the Sunshine Coast (UniSC) Art Gallery in Sippy Downs. Titled Marking Time: 30 Years of the UniSC Art Collection, this exhibition celebrates the university’s three decades of growth and its evolving identity within the community. It brings together more than 100 significant works drawn from the most extensive public art collection on the Sunshine Coast.

Visitors can explore a diverse range of pieces, including contemporary Australian Indigenous art, modern photography, and works that tell unique Queensland stories. The exhibition serves as a living archive, reflecting on place, sustainability, and artistic evolution. The gallery is located at 90 Sippy Downs Drive and is open today from 10:00 am to 4:00 pm. Best of all, admission is free, making it an accessible way to spend your Monday immersed in high-quality local culture.

Fall in Love with Reading: Library Lovers’ Day

The romance isn’t just for Valentine’s Day this year. Starting today, 9 February, Sunshine Coast and Noosa Libraries are kicking off their annual Library Lovers’ Day celebrations. This week-long event encourages residents to rediscover the joy of their local library through several interactive activities. One of the highlights is the Blind Date with a Book program, where adult readers can borrow a mystery-wrapped book, chosen by expert library staff, to see if it is "love at first page."

For those who enjoy a bit of friendly competition, the Library Lovers’ Bingo challenge also begins today. Participants can pick up a card from any local branch and complete reading-inspired tasks to win a library book bag. Additionally, local libraries are hosting specialized craft workshops, such as papercraft sessions with Julia Quinn, where attendees can transform recycled book pages into beautiful floral and heart-shaped creations.

Monday Movie Magic

If you prefer a quiet afternoon or evening at the cinema, local theaters have a full slate of screenings today. The Majestic Cinema in Nambour is featuring the reclusive drama Shelter at 7:30 pm and the highly anticipated Marty Supreme at 7:15 pm. Meanwhile, over at Sunshine Plaza in Maroochydore, you can catch midday sessions of The Housemaid or late-afternoon screenings of Avatar: Fire and Ash. These sessions provide a perfect opportunity to escape the Monday heat and enjoy the latest releases in air-conditioned comfort.
