Major Arteries: Bruce Highway and Steve Irwin Way

Commuters heading north towards the Sunshine Coast this morning should note that major asphalt resurfacing works on the Bruce Highway at Kallangur are scheduled to conclude by 5:00 am today. While the Anzac Avenue northbound on-ramp has been closed overnight, early morning travelers may still encounter residual congestion and reduced speed limits as traffic control clears the site. Any motorists caught in the final stages of this closure were redirected via Diamond Jubilee Way.

On the Coast, the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade Stage 1 continues to be a primary source of changed traffic conditions. Travelers using Steve Irwin Way between Beerburrum and Beerwah should expect increased worker vehicle movements and potential delays. Standard day works are active from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm, and drivers are urged to follow all posted signage and reduced speed limits throughout this construction corridor.

Sunshine Motorway and Mooloolaba Road Interchange

In the Mooloolaba area, the Mooloolaba Road and Sunshine Motorway Interchange (MRIU) project is escalating with significant land clearing and site preparation now underway. This project is a major component of the 2025-2026 infrastructure plan, aimed at separating local traffic from high-speed motorway flow.

Importantly for local commuters and active transport users, Seriata Way and the temporary carpark on Brisbane Road are now permanently closed to facilitate these works. Pedestrians and cyclists who previously used this route should plan for a significantly longer journey; the recommended alternative is to use the existing underpass between Amarina Avenue and Lady Musgrave Drive to cross the Sunshine Motorway.

Local Road Closures and Service Updates

Several local road projects may impact your neighborhood commute today:

  • Glass House Mountains: Moffatt Road remains closed to through traffic between Steve Irwin Way and Anderson Road for ongoing roadworks. Local access is maintained, but through-traffic must seek alternate routes.
  • Eudlo: Lane reductions are in place on Upper Tolson Road. While recent reports indicate no major delays, motorists should exercise caution when navigating the narrowed sections.
  • Bells Creek: Heavy usage is expected on the Bells Creek Arterial Road this morning, though no specific incidents or lane closures are currently reported for Wednesday.

Public Transport: Rail and Bus Services

TransLink reports that the Sunshine Coast Line is operating to its regular weekday timetable today, Wednesday, 4 February. While pre-delivery activities for the Direct Sunshine Coast Rail Line (The Wave) are occurring near the rail corridor, they are not currently impacting passenger services. Commuters are encouraged to utilize the TransLink app for real-time updates on bus services, particularly in Mooloolaba and Maroochydore, where local roadworks for the MRIU may cause minor schedule adjustments for coastal routes.
