Sunshine Coast Traffic Overview

Commuters across the Sunshine Coast should prepare for a mix of steady conditions on major motorways and localized delays due to significant infrastructure projects this Tuesday, 3 February 2026. While the Bruce Highway remains at normal flow through the heart of the coast, major rail and interchange upgrades are currently impacting travel times on key arterial and local roads. Transport authorities advise allowing extra travel time, particularly during the morning and afternoon peaks.

Major Rail Upgrade on Steve Irwin Way

The most significant impact for motorists today continues to be the ongoing Stage 1 construction of the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade. Work is concentrated on Steve Irwin Way and adjoining local roads between Beerburrum and Beerwah. Motorists can expect increased heavy vehicle movements and changed traffic conditions throughout the day. Standard day works are scheduled between 6:00 am and 6:00 pm, with delays expected in all directions. Traffic controllers and reduced speed limits are in place to ensure the safety of both workers and drivers.

Local Roadworks and Resealing

Several local maintenance projects are active today, necessitating caution in residential and rural areas:

  • Peachester:

River Road is currently undergoing a major road reseal. This project, which began in late January, is expected to continue through this week. Commuters should anticipate single-lane closures and short delays.
  • Line Marking:

Ongoing maintenance for road surface line marking is scheduled across various roads in Divisions 3 and 7. These mobile works may cause minor, short-term disruptions as crews move through different sectors.

Mooloolah River Interchange Update

Work on the Mooloolah River Interchange Upgrade (MRIU) is intensifying near Mooloolaba and Mountain Creek. While major road closures on the Sunshine Motorway are not scheduled for today, active transport users should be aware that Seriata Way and Incana Court remain closed to facilitate construction. Pedestrians and cyclists are required to use the signposted detour via Lady Musgrave Drive and Amarina Avenue. Motorists in this area should remain vigilant for land clearing activities near the Karawatha Drive exit.

Public Transport and Rail Status

Translink reports that the Sunshine Coast rail line is currently operating on a normal schedule. Commuters are reminded that the 50-cent flat rate fare remains in effect across the entire network, including all Kinetic bus services and regional rail. For those heading south toward Brisbane, be aware of a planned ramp closure at Kallangur affecting the Bruce Highway on-ramp from Anzac Avenue, which may cause minor merging delays for early morning commuters entering the Moreton Bay region.

As always, conditions can change rapidly due to weather or incidents. Drive to the conditions and follow all posted signage at construction sites.
