Valentine’s Day Travel and Weather Alerts

Commuters and weekend travelers across the Sunshine Coast are advised to plan for a mix of event-based congestion and potential weather-related hazards this Saturday, 14 February 2026. With Valentine’s Day celebrations in full swing, expect significantly higher traffic volumes around major dining and coastal precincts, including Noosa, Mooloolaba, and Maroochydore, particularly during the late afternoon and evening.

Additionally, the Bureau of Meteorology has issued a flood watch for South East Queensland. A trough moving across the region has prompted warnings of possible minor flooding starting Friday and continuing through Saturday. Motorists are urged to avoid driving through floodwaters and to check for local road closures before starting their journey.

Major Arteries and Highway Impacts

Significant activity continues on Steve Irwin Way as part of the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade (Stage 1). Motorists should expect increased worker vehicle movements and changed traffic conditions between Beerburrum and Beerwah. Work is scheduled from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm this Saturday. While the project aims to minimize delays, reduced speed limits are in effect near construction zones.

On the Bruce Highway, while no major weekend closures are reported, ongoing geotechnical investigations and early-stage upgrade works near the Caloundra Road interchange may cause minor rubbernecking delays. Keep an eye out for signage regarding wide center line installations and road strengthening crews active in the area.

Local Roadworks and Resealing

Sunshine Coast Council has several maintenance projects active this weekend that may cause localized delays. Notable areas include:

  • Bli Bli: Road resealing continues on Kupiano Drive and Waigani Street.
  • Burnside: Maintenance is scheduled for Windsor Road, Greenhaven Close, and Parkvista Court.
  • Pelican Waters: Resealing works are affecting Godwin Place, Grace Court, and Stirling Castle Court.
  • Peachester: Ongoing road reseal projects on River Road may involve single-lane alternating traffic.
  • Flaxton: Crews are active on Ensbey Road.

Public Transport and Rail Updates

For those utilizing public transport, Translink has confirmed a temporary stop closure at Cooroy Street, Dicky Beach, which is expected to remain in place until May. Passengers should use alternative nearby stops.

While the Sunshine Coast rail line is scheduled to operate, travelers heading toward Brisbane or the Gold Coast should be aware of major weekend track closures on the Beenleigh and Gold Coast lines. If your Valentine’s Day plans involve traveling south of Brisbane, allow for significant extra time to transfer to rail replacement buses.

Event Traffic

The Eumundi Markets will be a major drawcard this Saturday morning. Expect heavy congestion on the Bruce Highway exits and local roads leading into Eumundi between 8:00 am and 1:00 pm. Parking in the township will be limited, and increased pedestrian activity is expected near the market grounds.
