Official Public Notice: Infrastructure Updates and Legislative Deadlines

Public Submission Deadline: Sunshine Coast Waterways Authority Bill
Residents and stakeholders are reminded that the closing date for public submissions regarding the Sunshine Coast Waterways Authority Bill 2026 is today, Thursday, 19 March. This landmark legislation proposes the establishment of a statutory body to manage the region’s vital waterways, spanning from the Pumicestone Passage in the south to the Noosa lakes in the north. The proposed authority would be responsible for the strategic management and infrastructure maintenance of the Noosa, Maroochy, and Mooloolah rivers. Community feedback is essential in shaping how environmental and economic impacts are balanced within this new management framework.
Notice of Land Valuation Increases
The Queensland Valuer-General has officially issued new land valuations for the Sunshine Coast and Noosa local government areas. These valuations, which reflect market conditions as of late 2025, show a significant surge in property values across the region. In the Sunshine Coast Council area, revalued properties saw an average increase of 24 per cent, while Noosa recorded a jump of 37 per cent. Property owners are encouraged to review their new valuations via the official state government portal. While these figures will be used to determine the 2026-27 general rates, Council has indicated that extensive rate modelling will be undertaken to mitigate the direct impact on residents.
Traffic Advisory: Roadworks and Expected Delays
Major infrastructure projects continue to affect traffic flow across the hinterland and coastal corridors. Motorists should anticipate the following impacts for Thursday, 19 March:
- Steve Irwin Way: Ongoing construction for the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade Stage 1 will result in changed traffic conditions between Beerburrum and Beerwah. Standard day works are active from 6:00am to 6:00pm, with heavy night works scheduled for Thursday evening from 7:00pm until 5:00am.
- Roys Road, Beerwah: Eastbound delays are expected as road maintenance continues through to 24 March. Drivers are advised to allow extra travel time.
- Mooloolah Valley: King Road remains impacted by local works between Steve Irwin Way and Anderson Road. Local access is maintained, but through traffic should seek alternative routes.
Community Environment and Safety Update
Noosa Council has successfully finalized the acquisition of 121 hectares of land in Kin Kin for permanent conservation. Funded by the Environment Levy, this parcel forms a critical wildlife corridor connecting the Great Sandy National Park. Initial works, including fire trail establishment and weed control, are currently underway. Additionally, local emergency services remain on alert following a storage tank fire containment near Palmview earlier this week; residents are advised to remain vigilant regarding local fire safety regulations as restoration work continues.
