Official City Roundup: Thursday, 29 January 2026

Sunshine Coast Council and Queensland Health have issued several official notices for residents and visitors. These updates include critical health advisories, infrastructure projects, and community consultation opportunities currently active across the region.

Public Health Advisory: Measles Alert

Queensland Health continues to monitor a measles alert for the Sunshine Coast following confirmed cases in the region. Residents who visited the following locations in early January are urged to remain vigilant for symptoms for up to three weeks from their exposure date:

  • Noosa National Park
  • Depot Noosa
  • Public transit routes between Noosaville and Kingfisher Bay

Symptoms include fever, lethargy, runny nose, and a sore red cough, followed by a red blotchy rash. If symptoms develop, please contact your GP or call 13HEALTH immediately. Ensure you phone ahead before visiting any medical facility to prevent further spread.

Roadworks and Traffic Conditions

Several road maintenance projects are scheduled for Thursday, 29 January. Motorists should anticipate changed traffic conditions and potential delays in the following areas:

  • Peachester: A road reseal project on River Road is currently underway. These works are expected to last for approximately two weeks with detours in place between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm.
  • Aroona: Maintenance continues on Beerburrum Street. Traffic management is on-site to facilitate road resurfacing.
  • Beerburrum to Beerwah: Major works associated with the Rail Upgrade Stage 1 continue along Steve Irwin Way. Night works occur between 7:00 pm and 5:00 am. Expect reduced speed limits and increased heavy vehicle movements.

National Park and Forest Alerts

The Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation has issued access notices for local recreation areas:

  • Conondale National Park: Booloumba Creek camping area 3 (Site 10) remains closed for planned maintenance until late February.
  • Conondale Range Great Walk: A safety alert is active for the Great Walk and Imbil State Forest due to fallen trees and ongoing track repairs. Hikers are advised to exercise caution.

Community Consultation: Alexandra Headland

Council is currently seeking community feedback regarding proposed parking restrictions on Marina Walk at Alexandra Headland. The proposal aims to address reports of late-night antisocial behavior by introducing time-limited parking between 8:00 pm and 4:00 am. The survey remains open for public comment throughout the day.

Waste Collection Services

All kerbside waste, recycling, and garden organics collection services will proceed as scheduled today. Residents are reminded to have their bins at the kerbside by 6:00 am to ensure collection.
