Alexandra Headland: Alex Bluff Foreshore Park Upgrades
Sunshine Coast Council has officially announced the commencement of the Coastal Pathway renewal project at Alex Bluff Foreshore Park, starting today, Sunday, 1 February 2026. This significant infrastructure project is part of a broader commitment to improve accessibility, safety, and amenity along the region's popular coastal network. The existing 1.8-metre-wide path will be renewed and widened to a 3.5-metre shared pathway, facilitating a safer experience for walkers, runners, and cyclists.
- Construction is expected to last approximately six months, weather and site conditions permitting.
- Temporary fencing and restricted access zones will be in place throughout the foreshore park.
- Pedestrians are encouraged to follow all directional signage and utilize designated alternative routes during the construction phase.
Bli Bli: New Pathway Construction on Princess Drive
Pathway connectivity in Bli Bli is set to improve with the start of construction on a new link along Princess Drive, beginning today. The 72-metre long, 1.8-metre-wide concrete path will connect the existing kerb ramp at Wharf Road through to Armour Place. Council has noted the following details for local residents:
- The project is scheduled for completion within two weeks, site conditions permitting.
- To facilitate the new alignment, five trees will be removed from the site; however, replacement trees will be planted as part of the project’s environmental offset program.
- Minor traffic disruptions may occur near the intersection of Wharf Road and Princess Drive.
Mooloolah River Interchange (MRIU) Ongoing Closures
Following recent land clearing operations, major construction for Stage 1 of the Mooloolah River Interchange Upgrade continues to impact local travel. As of this weekend, the following changes are active:
- Seriata Way and the Incana Court active transport network are closed permanently to accommodate main construction works.
- A significant detour is now in place for pedestrians and cyclists, who are advised to use the alternative route via Lady Musgrave Drive and Amarina Avenue.
- Ongoing work on the Sunshine Motorway near the Mountain Creek exit may result in reduced speed limits and temporary lane closures.
Rail Upgrade: Sunday Night Works on Steve Irwin Way
Residents in the Beerburrum and Beerwah areas are reminded that night works for the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade (Stage 1) resume this evening, Sunday, 1 February. Work is scheduled from 7:00 pm to 5:00 am. Motorists should expect increased worker vehicle movements and potential delays on Steve Irwin Way between Roys Road and Endeavour Road. Traffic controllers will be on-site to manage vehicle flow through active work zones.
