Public Notice: Sunshine Coast Regional Infrastructure and Health Update

Infrastructure Alert: Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade
Residents and commuters across the Glass House Mountains, Beerwah, and Beerburrum districts are advised that major construction for the Beerburrum to Nambour (B2N) rail upgrade has reached a critical stage. Effective Thursday, 12 February 2026, motorists should prepare for significant disruptions and changed traffic conditions as site establishment and earthworks accelerate along the rail corridor.
- Steve Irwin Way: Expect reduced speed limits, temporary lane shifts, and a sustained increase in heavy vehicle movements between Beerburrum and Beerwah.
- Moffatt Road: This thoroughfare remains closed to all through traffic for approximately 18 months to facilitate essential drainage construction.
- Glass House Mountains: The commuter car park south of Bruce Parade is now permanently closed. Additionally, shared pedestrian and cycling paths on both sides of the Burgess Street bridge are closed, with signed detours in place.
- Night Works: Construction crews are scheduled to operate Sunday through Thursday nights, between 7:00 PM and 5:00 AM. Nearby residents may notice increased noise, light, and vibration during these hours.
Road Safety: Bruce Highway Speed Reductions
The Department of Transport and Main Roads (TMR) maintains a safety-first approach following a recent structural incident at the Ilkley Road overpass in Tanawha. Southbound lanes on the Bruce Highway continue to operate under a reduced speed limit of 60 km/h to protect motorists and workers while bridge assessments continue. The Ilkley Road overpass remains closed to all traffic. Drivers are urged to allow extra travel time for the Brisbane-bound commute and to follow all temporary signage in the area.
Community Health: Back-to-School Wellness Advisory
Sunshine Coast Health is issuing a public service announcement for parents and guardians as the 2026 school term progresses. To minimize the spread of seasonal illness within the classroom, health officials recommend a focus on high hygiene standards. This includes reinforcing regular hand-washing routines and ensuring students have nutritious, shelf-stable lunchboxes to maintain energy levels and immune health throughout the day.
Employment Opportunities: Library Services
Sunshine Coast Council is currently seeking a Library Collection and Digital Services Supervisor to lead a dynamic team in Nambour. This permanent full-time position involves overseeing community-focused customer experiences and managing digital library assets. Applications for this role are active and will close on Sunday, 15 February 2026. Interested candidates are encouraged to submit their credentials through the official Council careers portal.
Park Maintenance and Public Amenities
Council maintenance crews are currently operating on peak-season mowing schedules for the region’s 1,340 parks. High-profile district parks are being serviced on a weekly to fortnightly basis to accommodate increased visitor numbers. Residents are reminded that while weather conditions remain humid, maintenance schedules may shift slightly to account for ground dampness and machinery access safety.
