Major Road and Pathway Infrastructure Works

Sunshine Coast Council has commenced several significant infrastructure projects effective this week, aimed at improving safety and connectivity across the region. Residents and commuters should be prepared for changed traffic conditions and potential delays at the following locations:

  • Alexandra Headland: The Alex Bluff Foreshore Park Coastal Pathway upgrade began on February 1, 2026. This six-month project involves widening the existing 1.8-metre path to a 3.5-metre shared pathway to improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
  • Dicky Beach: Work has started on a major intersection upgrade at the corner of Beerburrum Street and Cooroy Street. Funded through the Black Spot Program, this 15-week project will install new traffic signals, pedestrian crossings, and improved cycle lanes.
  • Bli Bli: A new 1.8-metre-wide pathway is being constructed along Princess Drive, stretching 72 metres from the existing kerb ramp at Wharf Road to Armour Place. These works are expected to take approximately two weeks.
  • Peachester: Road resealing activities are currently active on River Road. This maintenance work, which began in late January, is scheduled for completion within the next week, weather permitting.

Mooloolah River Interchange Upgrade Progress

Major early works for Stage 1 of the Mooloolah River Interchange Upgrade (MRIU) are ramping up this month. Significant land clearing has been undertaken near Mooloolaba and Mountain Creek to prepare for the construction of a new road overpass and signalised intersections. Motorists are advised that temporary road closures and local traffic diversions may be implemented around Bundilla Boulevard and the Sunshine Motorway (westbound) exits as heavy machinery movements increase in the area.

Planning and Community Development Notices

Official planning notices have been issued for several regional developments, providing residents with an opportunity to review and comment on upcoming changes to the local landscape:

  • Lupin Street Development: A public submission period begins today, February 2, 2026, regarding a proposed reconfiguration of a lot on Lupin Street. The application involves the creation of two lots and an access easement. Residents have until February 23 to submit formal feedback to the Council.
  • Finland Road Lease: Following the recent Ordinary Meeting, Council has confirmed the awarding of a 10-year lease for 334 Finland Road, Marcoola, to the Kabi Kabi Peoples Aboriginal Corporation. This lease will facilitate the establishment of a women's ranger program and cultural heritage services.
  • Noosa Community Grants: Noosa Council has announced that the next round of Community Grant funding will open on February 9, 2026. Organisations are encouraged to prepare applications for projects that align with regional strategic goals, with funding caps for community events now set at $20,000.

Public Health and Safety Advisory

Queensland Health remains on alert following the notification of the first case of invasive meningococcal disease (IMD) in the state for 2026. While no specific local clusters have been identified on the Sunshine Coast this week, health officials urge residents to remain vigilant for symptoms such as high fever, severe headache, and a distinct purple rash. Additionally, although the notification period for recent measles exposure locations has passed, residents are reminded to ensure their vaccinations are up to date and to contact 13HEALTH if they develop unusual respiratory symptoms or rashes.
