Morning Commute Overview

Commuters across the Sunshine Coast can expect a relatively steady flow this morning, Friday, 27 February 2026, though several localized roadworks and major infrastructure projects continue to require extra travel time. Peak hour traffic is building as usual along the Bruce Highway, while residents in the Buderim and Flaxton areas should prepare for minor diversions due to the council’s road rehabilitation program.

Buderim and Local Roadworks

Sunshine Coast Council has several active resealing projects underway today. Motorists should be aware of the following conditions:

  • Buderim: Road resealing is active on Bluebush Avenue and Guy Avenue. Work began earlier this week and is expected to continue with minor traffic control in place. Residents should also note ongoing work on Honeyeater Close.
  • Flaxton: Ensbey Road remains under a road reseal program with work hours generally between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. While delays are expected to be minimal, traffic controllers are on-site to assist.

Drivers are reminded to follow all temporary signage and adhere to reduced speed limits in these work zones for the safety of crews and fellow road users.

Major Arteries and Bruce Highway Updates

Major upgrades to the Bruce Highway under the Targeted Safety Program are continuing between Gympie and the Sunshine Coast. These works are designed to improve skid resistance and vehicle stability. While most high-impact work is scheduled for off-peak hours, some lane narrowings and speed reductions remain in place near construction zones.

On Steve Irwin Way, motorists should expect increased worker vehicle movements and changed traffic conditions between Beerburrum and Beerwah. This is part of the ongoing Beerburrum to Nambour (B2N) Rail Upgrade Stage 1, which includes significant road realignment and overpass construction scheduled through 2026.

Public Transport and Rail Alerts

The Sunshine Coast rail line is currently operating on its standard weekday schedule; however, commuters should prepare for significant disruptions starting tomorrow. Translink has announced a weekend track closure for the inner city and southern lines beginning Saturday, 28 February, which may affect those planning to travel toward Brisbane early this weekend.

Construction activities for The Wave (Direct Sunshine Coast Rail Line) are also ramping up this year. While the current focus is on pre-delivery site investigations near Beerwah and Caloundra, commuters may notice increased activity near the rail corridor as site preparations continue.

School Bus Reminder

As we approach the end of the week, a reminder for parents that the Term 1 school bus schedule changes are fully in effect. This includes the modified express portions for routes such as the 5552 and 5503, designed to alleviate overcrowding for students traveling toward Baringa and Nirimba.
