City Notices: Road Resealing, Safety Updates and Community Alerts

Official City Notice: Road Resealing and Maintenance Schedule
Sunshine Coast Council has scheduled essential road resealing and rehabilitation works to commence this Friday, 6 March 2026. These works are part of the Council's ongoing commitment to maintaining the region’s 2,500km road network and ensuring long-term safety and efficiency for all motorists. Residents in the following areas should anticipate changed traffic conditions:
- Buddina: Resealing works are set to begin on Iluka Avenue and Karalise Court. Works are expected to take approximately two weeks, weather permitting.
- Flaxton: Maintenance crews will commence resealing along Ensbey Road. Residents are advised to expect minor delays and should follow the directions of traffic control personnel on-site.
Standard working hours for these projects are 7:00 am to 5:00 pm. While local access for residents will be maintained, vehicle movements may be restricted during active asphalt application. Motorists are urged to plan ahead and allow extra travel time.
Major Infrastructure Update: First Avenue, Maroochydore
As part of the transformative First Avenue streetscape upgrade, the northbound lane remains closed between The Esplanade and Aerodrome Road. This closure is part of a 15-month construction phase designed to connect the Maroochydore CBD with the Cotton Tree precinct. Southbound traffic remains permitted, though heavy congestion is expected during peak hours. Translink Route 600 bus stops on First Avenue have been relocated; commuters should check the MyTranslink app for the nearest alternative stops.
Public Health Advisory: Measles Watch
Queensland Health continues to advise residents and visitors to remain vigilant following recent confirmed cases of measles in the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane areas. Health authorities are monitoring locations of interest and encourage anyone who has not been fully vaccinated (two doses of the MMR vaccine) to contact their GP. Symptoms of measles include fever, cough, runny nose, and sore eyes, followed by a characteristic red blotchy rash. If you suspect you have measles, please call your medical clinic ahead of your visit to ensure proper infection control measures are in place.
Community Recognition: 2026 Biosphere Awards
Nominations are now officially open for the 2026 Sunshine Coast Biosphere Community Awards. Following the region's recognition as a UNESCO Biosphere, these awards celebrate individuals, businesses, and groups who demonstrate excellence in sustainability and environmental stewardship. Categories include biodiversity conservation, sustainable business practices, and community education. Nominations close soon; residents are encouraged to visit the official Council portal to submit a candidate who is helping preserve the Sunshine Coast’s unique natural heritage.
Park and Coastal Maintenance
Council maintenance crews are currently operating on a peak-season schedule for all high-profile parks and sports fields. Residents may notice increased mowing activity across the region's 500+ recreation parks as teams work to manage rapid grass growth following recent rainfall. Additionally, remediation works continue at Khancoban Drive Park in Buderim to address underground voids. Certain sections of the park remain cordoned off for public safety while geotechnical stabilization is finalized.
