Commuter Alert: Road Resealing Begins in Buddina; Lane Reductions on Alexandra Parade

Sunshine Coast Traffic and Commute Update: Thursday, 5 March 2026
Good morning, Sunshine Coast commuters. As we head into Thursday, residents should prepare for several new roadwork projects and ongoing infrastructure upgrades that may affect travel times across the region. While the major arteries like the Bruce Highway are currently seeing steady flow, localized delays are expected in several key coastal and hinterland suburbs.
New and Ongoing Roadworks
Starting today, 5 March, Sunshine Coast Council will begin road resealing and rehabilitation works on Iluka Avenue in Buddina. This project is expected to last approximately two weeks. Motorists in the area should expect changed traffic conditions, including potential lane closures and the presence of traffic controllers between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. Residents are advised that vehicle access to properties may be restricted during active work hours.
In Eumundi, works continue on Jocelyn Drive following the commencement of a resealing project yesterday. Similar to the Buddina works, this is a two-week project that will require drivers to slow down and follow on-site directions. Additional ongoing maintenance continues in Buderim (Bluebush Avenue and Guy Avenue) and Maroochydore (Waterford Court), where minor delays may occur during peak daytime hours.
Major Project Impacts
Commuters traveling through Alexandra Headland should note that lane reductions are currently in place on Alexandra Parade. These disruptions are scheduled to continue until 11 March, so please allow extra time for the coastal crawl during the morning and afternoon peaks.
In the southern end of the coast, the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade continues to impact Steve Irwin Way. Increased worker vehicle movements and changed traffic conditions are expected between Beerburrum and Beerwah. Night works on this project typically run from Sunday to Thursday, 7:00 pm to 5:00 am, meaning early morning commuters may still encounter some equipment demobilization before the 6:00 am peak.
Public Transport and Bus Detours
Translink and Queensland Rail report a normal service status for the Sunshine Coast Line this morning. However, bus commuters should be aware of several significant long-term detours:
- Dicky Beach: Cooroy Street remains closed between Coochin Street and Beerburrum Street. Routes 5541, 5551, 5702, and 5717 are detouring via Coonowrin Street, with stops on Cooroy Street currently closed.
- Mooloolaba: First Avenue northbound remains closed between Aerodrome Road and the Esplanade. Routes 5601, 5719, and 5728 are detouring via Second Avenue.
- Bokarina: Preparations are underway for the closure of bus stops on Dune Vista Drive starting next week; however, current services are running to their normal stops today.
Drive safely and stay tuned for further updates throughout the day.
