Significant Disruptions on the Sunshine Coast Rail Line

Commuters heading toward Brisbane this morning face a major disruption as the Sunshine Coast line is partially closed for critical upgrade works. The track is closed in both directions between Landsborough and Caboolture stations for Monday, March 16, and Tuesday, March 17. These works are part of the Beerburrum to Nambour Rail Upgrade Stage 1 and general corridor maintenance.

Translink has confirmed that replacement buses will be operating in place of all train services for this section. Passengers should allow for up to 45 minutes of additional travel time, as buses will be navigating standard morning peak-hour traffic. If you are traveling from Nambour or further north, you will need to transfer to a bus at Landsborough to continue your journey south. Normal rail services are expected to resume on Wednesday morning.

Road Rehabilitation Begins in Alexandra Headland

Motorists in the Alexandra Headland area should prepare for changes to local traffic flow starting today. Sunshine Coast Council has scheduled road rehabilitation works on Janet Street, which are set to commence this morning, Monday, March 16. This project is expected to last approximately three weeks, weather permitting.

While local access for residents will be maintained, through traffic may experience delays between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm. Traffic controllers will be on-site to manage vehicle movements. It is recommended that drivers use Alexandra Parade or Buderim Avenue as alternative routes to avoid potential bottlenecks during the morning and afternoon school runs.

Highways and Major Arteries Update

  • Steve Irwin Way: Increased heavy vehicle movements and worker activity are reported between Beerburrum and Beerwah. This is due to ongoing construction for the rail upgrade project. Expect reduced speed limits and short delays in both directions throughout the day.
  • Bruce Highway: The primary bottleneck remains the stretch between Caloundra Road and the Sunshine Motorway. While no new incidents are reported this morning, heavy congestion is expected between 6:30 am and 8:30 am. Southbound travel is particularly slow through the merging zones near the Tanawha Tourist Drive exit.
  • Mooloolaba Traffic: Following the weekend's triathlon event, final pack-down activities are still underway. The Parkyn Parade Rotary car park remains closed until 5:00 pm today. Most major road closures from the weekend have been lifted, but expect minor delays near the Mooloolaba Esplanade as event infrastructure is removed.

Commuters are encouraged to plan their journeys ahead of time and check the latest updates before leaving home. Slow down in work zones to ensure the safety of road crews and fellow drivers.
