Public Notice: Infrastructure Works and Community Health Advisories

Official City Notice: Road Rehabilitation and Maintenance Schedule
Sunshine Coast Council has issued several traffic advisories for the week commencing Monday, 16 March 2026. Residents are advised to plan for temporary delays and follow all posted signage. Key roadwork locations include:
- Alexandra Headland: Major road rehabilitation works are scheduled to begin today, 16 March, on Janet Street. This project is expected to last approximately three weeks, weather permitting. Residents should expect restricted vehicle access and temporary detours.
- Buderim: A road reseal project is currently underway on Cumberland Way, having commenced on 15 March. These works are anticipated to continue for two weeks. Additionally, resealing is scheduled for Burnett Lane starting Tuesday, 17 March.
- Ongoing Maintenance: Maintenance road surface line marking is currently being conducted across various roads within Divisions 3 and 4. These works are ongoing, and motorists are urged to maintain a safe distance from marking vehicles.
Major Transport Infrastructure Milestones
Significant progress is being reported on several generational transport projects designed to ease regional congestion. Tenders have officially opened for the construction of the Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade (CTCU) between Nicklin Way and Third Avenue. This project aims to provide an alternative route into the Caloundra CBD, diverting traffic from the heavily congested Nicklin Way and Pelican Waters Boulevard intersection.
Furthermore, geotechnical works and site investigations have commenced for Stage 2 of "The Wave" at the site of the future Aroona Station. These works are critical for the detailed design phase of the Sunshine Coast Direct Rail Link. Residents may notice increased technical activity and drilling equipment in the Aroona area throughout the month.
Public Facilities and Coastal Amenity Upgrades
Construction continues on the Alex Bluff Foreshore Park coastal pathway upgrade. This project involves widening the existing 1.8-metre path to a 3.5-metre shared pathway to improve safety for walkers and cyclists. Works are expected to remain active through August 2026. In the immediate term, fence renewal works along Mary Street in Alexandra Headland are nearing completion, with final site restoration expected by late this week.
Community Safety and Environmental Advisories
In response to the current weather system, a Flood Watch remains in effect for Southeast Queensland. Council urges residents to monitor the Disaster Hub for real-time updates on local road closures and to remember: "If it's flooded, forget it." High rainfall totals have increased the risk of localized flash flooding in low-lying areas.
Additionally, motorists are reminded to remain vigilant for local wildlife. With the seasonal transition, wildlife collisions are most frequent at dawn and dusk. Drivers are advised to reduce speed in known habitat corridors to protect local fauna and ensure passenger safety. Finally, Council invites all residents to participate in Harmony Week celebrations, which continue through late March, highlighting the region's cultural diversity under the theme "Everyone Belongs."
