Noosa Council General Committee Session

The Noosa Shire Council is scheduled to hold a General Committee meeting today, Monday, 16 March 2026, at 12:30 PM. The session will take place at the Council Chambers located on Pelican Street in Tewantin. As a committee of the whole, the meeting involves all elected councillors and is chaired by Councillor Stockwell. This session serves as a critical deliberation phase where councillors review departmental reports and debate recommendations before they are sent to the next Ordinary Meeting for final ratification.

While the Sunshine Coast Regional Council does not have a formal ordinary session scheduled for today, administrative activities across both regional local governments are at a peak due to several major community consultation and program deadlines falling on this date.

Major Community Deadlines Today

Today, 16 March, marks the final opportunity for residents and local organizations to participate in several key council-led initiatives:

  • Mayor’s Telstra Innovation Masterclass Series: Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the 2026 Masterclass Series close at midnight. Supported by Sunshine Coast Mayor Rosanna Natoli, this program is designed for students in Years 8 to 10 to develop leadership and entrepreneurial skills. Successful applicants for the upcoming sessions at City Hall in Maroochydore will be notified later this week.
  • Cooroy Future Group EOI: Submissions for the Cooroy Future Group Expression of Interest are due by the end of the day. This initiative is part of Noosa Council’s broader strategy to engage community-led organizations in local planning and project delivery.
  • Grant Applications: Several specialized grant rounds, including the Climate Change Response and Environment Project programs, remain open for final reviews ahead of their submission windows closing later this month.

Infrastructure and Environmental Updates

In a significant move for regional water infrastructure, Seqwater has confirmed that demolition works on the existing spillway at Lake Macdonald are scheduled to commence today. This phase of the Lake Macdonald Dam Improvement Project was previously delayed due to weather conditions but is now moving forward. Residents in the Cooroy and Lake Macdonald areas have been advised to expect increased heavy vehicle movements near the site as the project transitions into the wall demolition phase.

Furthermore, the Sunshine Coast continues to host the Noosa Festival of Surfing, which is currently active at Noosa Heads. Council-supported events associated with the festival, including community environmental walks and youth programs, are taking place throughout the day, emphasizing the region’s focus on sustainable tourism and outdoor lifestyle.

Members of the public who cannot attend the General Committee meeting in person at Tewantin are encouraged to view the proceedings via the council’s official livestreaming service, which starts concurrently with the 12:30 PM session.
