New Night Works in Minyama and Local Resealing Projects Across the Coast This Sunday

Sunday Commute Overview
Residents and visitors across the Sunshine Coast can expect a relatively smooth commute this Sunday, March 8, 2026. While Sunday traffic is typically lighter than the heavy weekday peaks, several new local roadwork projects and ongoing infrastructure upgrades require attention from motorists. Sunshine Coast Council maintenance remains active, and public transport users should account for long-term detours currently in effect.
Local Roadworks and Resealing Projects
The Sunshine Coast Council has scheduled several maintenance activities that may impact local traffic flow today. A significant addition to the schedule is the commencement of night works on Kensington Drive in Minyama. This road resealing project is set to begin tonight, Sunday, March 8, and is expected to last for approximately two weeks. Motorists in the Minyama area should expect traffic management measures and potential delays between 6:00 PM and 5:00 AM.
Ongoing road resealing and rehabilitation works also continue in several beachside suburbs. Motorists are encouraged to slow down and follow traffic directions in the following areas:
- Buddina: Works on Iluka Avenue and Karalise Court remain active. Crews are on-site finishing these segments, so please watch for localized detours.
- Warana: Resealing continues on Mulgani Street, with minor disruptions expected for local residents.
- Point Arkwright: Expect continued activity on Edward Street and Jubilee Esplanade throughout the day.
- Maroochydore: Localized delays may be experienced around Waterford Court and Plymouth Quay as part of the council's ongoing maintenance program.
- Eumundi: Maintenance continues on Jocelyn Drive, requiring caution from drivers in the hinterland.
Major Artery Updates
On the Bruce Highway, traffic remains steady. However, long-term upgrade projects continue to influence travel patterns. Drivers should be particularly cautious around the Maroochydore Road and Mons Road interchanges near Forest Glen. While major construction is mostly clear of the main travel lanes on Sundays, construction vehicles and narrowed lanes remain a constant factor.
Further north, the Mooloolah River Interchange (Stage 1) early works are progressing steadily. Site preparation, including geotechnical investigations and clearing, is occurring near the Sunshine Motorway and Nicklin Way. While these activities are primarily off-road, they can cause temporary distractions or minor merges for those traveling toward Mooloolaba.
Public Transport and Bus Detours
Public transport users should be aware of several long-term detours currently affecting local routes. In Dicky Beach, the closure of Cooroy Street between Coochin Street and Beerburrum Street remains in effect. This impacts routes 5541, 5551, 5702, and 5717, with buses detouring via Coonowrin Street. Additionally, in Maroochydore, the northbound closure of First Avenue between Aerodrome Road and the Esplanade continues to affect routes 5601, 5719, and 5728, with detours via Second Avenue.
As a reminder for the week ahead, the Mooloolaba Triathlon is scheduled for next weekend, March 14-15, which will involve major closures on the Sunshine Motorway and Mooloolaba Esplanade.
