Official Notice: Mt Coolum Infrastructure Project Commences

Sunshine Coast Council, in partnership with the Queensland Government, officially commences construction on the Mount Coolum Public Amenities project today, Monday, 2 March 2026. This $475,000 infrastructure investment aims to provide modern, sustainably powered facilities at the entrance to the Mount Coolum National Park trail.

Construction is expected to continue through mid-May 2026, weather and site conditions permitting. During this period, residents and visitors should be aware of the following impacts:

  • Parking Restrictions: Due to the movement of heavy machinery and construction equipment, several parking spaces within the main carpark will be unavailable. Visitors are encouraged to carpool or seek alternative transport where possible.
  • Access: The popular summit walking track will remain open to the public throughout the construction phase. Pedestrians are advised to follow all directional signage and stay clear of fenced-off work zones for their safety.
  • Facilities: The new block will feature solar power and accessible design to cater to the 200,000 annual visitors the park receives.

Road Maintenance and Resealing Schedule

As part of the regional road rehabilitation program, essential road resealing works are scheduled to begin today, Monday, 2 March 2026, across several key residential areas in Maroochydore. These works are vital for maintaining the safety and longevity of the local transport network.

  • Waterford Court, Maroochydore: Road resealing operations start today and are expected to last approximately two weeks.
  • Plymouth Quay, Maroochydore: Maintenance crews will be active on-site from today for a scheduled two-week duration.
  • First Avenue Upgrade: Ongoing major construction continues on First Avenue, Maroochydore. Intermittent lane closures and temporary traffic signals remain in effect at the intersection of The Esplanade and Duporth Avenue.

Motorists are reminded to slow down in work zones and follow the directions of traffic controllers. Property access for local residents will be maintained, though minor delays should be anticipated between 7:00 am and 5:00 pm.

Public Planning and Development Updates

A formal public notice has been issued regarding a proposed development at Unit 12 / 44-48 Junction Drive, Coolum Beach. The application seeks a Development Permit for a Material Change of Use to establish a food and drink outlet. The public notification period is currently active and will remain open for submissions until 20 March 2026. Interested parties may view application details via the Council's planning portal.

Administrative Reminders

Sunshine Coast Council advises that rates notices for new property owners are scheduled to be issued tomorrow, 3 March 2026. These notices will have a due date of 2 April 2026. Residents who have recently purchased property in the region are encouraged to ensure their contact details are up to date to avoid late payment penalties.
