Public Health Alert: Measles Symptom Monitoring

Sunshine Coast Health has maintained a public health alert following confirmed measles exposures earlier this month. Residents and visitors who were present at the Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) between February 11 and February 16, 2026, are advised to remain vigilant. Specifically, the alert covers the Emergency Department, the Child and Adolescent Ward, and the Paediatric Critical Care Unit during specific windows in that period.

As the incubation period for measles can extend up to 18 days, authorities advise that anyone potentially exposed should continue monitoring for symptoms through this weekend. Early signs include fever, tiredness, a runny nose, and sore red eyes, followed by a blotchy rash. If you develop symptoms, please phone your GP or the hospital ahead of arrival to ensure staff can take necessary precautions to prevent further transmission. High-risk groups, including pregnant women and the immunocompromised, should verify their vaccination status immediately.

Roadworks and Traffic Conditions

Motorists should prepare for changed traffic conditions across several key local routes this Saturday, February 28. Under the Sunshine Coast Council’s ongoing maintenance schedule, the following impacts are expected:

  • Steve Irwin Way (Beerburrum to Beerwah): Construction activities related to the Rail Upgrade Stage 1 continue. Standard day works are scheduled from 6:00 am to 6:00 pm this Saturday. Drivers should expect increased worker vehicle movements and potential delays between Beerburrum and Nambour.
  • Roys Road, Beerwah: Active roadworks are underway through to March 5. Motorists should anticipate minor delays and follow all posted signage and speed reductions in the area.
  • Ensbey Road, Flaxton: Localized maintenance may cause temporary restrictions. Residents are urged to use caution and allow extra travel time.

Community Notice: Clean Up Australia Day Preparations

Council is reminding residents that tomorrow, Sunday, March 1, marks the official Clean Up Australia Day. Following the successful Schools Clean Up event on Friday, today serves as the final opportunity for individuals and community groups to register their local clean-up sites online. Registered volunteers can collect free clean-up kits, including gloves and bags, at designated council distribution points. Participation helps protect our local beaches, bushland, and waterways from the impacts of litter and plastic pollution.

Park Infrastructure: Mount Coolum Amenities

Advance notice is provided for visitors to the Mount Coolum National Park entrance. Construction of new public amenities is scheduled to commence on Monday, March 2. While the walking track to the summit will remain open throughout the project, some parking spaces within the carpark may be restricted starting this weekend as equipment is staged. Council appreciates the community's patience as these essential facilities are delivered.
