Public Service Announcement: Mooloolaba Triathlon Road Closures

Residents and visitors are advised that significant road and car park closures will take effect on Friday, 13 March 2026, to facilitate the setup and commencement of the Mooloolaba Triathlon weekend. Sunshine Coast Council has authorized the following disruptions to ensure public safety during the event:

  • Beach Terrace & Car Park: Full road and car park closure will be in effect from 4:30 am to 7:00 pm.
  • Brisbane Road: The section between First Avenue and Mooloolaba Esplanade will be closed to all traffic from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm.
  • Mooloolaba Esplanade: The stretch between Brisbane Road and Venning Street will be closed from 1:00 pm to 2:30 pm.

Additionally, total parkland closures remain in place at the Northern Parklands and Charles Clark Park for event infrastructure. Pedestrian diversions are active, and motorists are encouraged to use alternative routes through the Mooloolaba CBD.

Emergency Advisory: Flooding and Health Risks

Following the impacts of Tropical Low 29U, an emergency road closure remains active at Short Street in Nambour. Local authorities urge residents to avoid the area and never attempt to drive through floodwaters. Queensland Health has issued a regional advisory regarding the increased risk of melioidosis in flood-affected areas. Residents are urged to wear waterproof footwear and gloves when cleaning up debris or working in soil to prevent infection.

Council Notice: Wildlife Safety and Environmental Consultation

Sunshine Coast Council has issued a wildlife safety alert for commuters. Drivers are reminded to remain vigilant during dawn and dusk hours, particularly on rural and peri-urban roads, to reduce the risk of collisions with local wildlife. If you encounter an injured animal, please contact the appropriate local rescue services immediately.

Community members are also reminded that the public consultation period for the Brannocks Environment Reserve Management Plan is currently open. Submissions regarding the future preservation and use of this reserve must be received by Council no later than Friday, 20 March 2026.

Infrastructure Update: Regional Roadworks

Early works for the Mooloolah River Interchange Upgrade and the Caloundra Transport Corridor Upgrade continue this week. While no major new closures are scheduled for Friday, motorists should expect minor delays and changed traffic conditions near Nicklin Way and the Sunshine Motorway. Please follow all posted signage and directions from traffic controllers.
