Public Health Advisory: Regional Measles Alert

Queensland Health has issued a high-priority health alert for the Sunshine Coast following confirmed cases of measles in the region. Authorities have identified that an infectious individual visited several public locations, including the Sunshine Coast University Hospital and Brisbane International Airport. Residents and visitors who were in these areas during the last week of February are advised to monitor for symptoms until late March.

Measles is a highly contagious viral illness. Symptoms typically include a high fever, cough, runny nose, and sore red eyes, followed by a blotchy red rash. Residents who develop these symptoms are urged to contact their GP or 13 HEALTH before arriving at a clinic to prevent further transmission. Vaccination remains the most effective defense, and individuals born during or after 1966 are encouraged to ensure they have received two doses of the MMR vaccine.

Road Reseal and Maintenance Program

Sunshine Coast Council’s 2026 Road Reseal and Rehabilitation Program continues this week with several new and ongoing projects. Motorists should be aware of the following schedules:

  • Eumundi: Essential road resealing works on Jocelyn Drive are scheduled to commence today, Wednesday, 4 March. Work is expected to take approximately two weeks, depending on weather conditions.
  • Maroochydore: Ongoing maintenance continues at Waterford Court and Plymouth Quay. Traffic management is in place from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
  • Point Arkwright: Road rehabilitation remains active on Edward Street and Jubilee Esplanade. Residents are advised that vehicle access may be restricted during active machinery hours.

Drivers are reminded to follow all directional signage and observe reduced speed limits in work zones to ensure the safety of both the public and road crews.

Infrastructure and Coastal Pathway Updates

Significant upgrades to the regional active transport network are currently underway. The Coastal Pathway upgrade at Alex Bluff Foreshore Park is progressing, with work focusing on widening the existing 1.8-metre path to a 3.5-metre shared pathway. This project is part of a broader six-month safety and accessibility initiative. In the Mooloolah River Interchange precinct, the permanent closure of Seriata Way and Incana Court remains in effect. Pedestrians and cyclists are directed to use the alternative route via Lady Musgrave Drive and Amarina Avenue.

Council Tenders and Business

Noosa Shire Council has announced that the tender period for the Doonella Bridge Renewal (CN25107) officially closes today, 4 March, at 2:00 pm. Additionally, a new tender for the Noosa Aquatic Centre Filtration Upgrade (CN26032) is currently open, with submissions accepted until 11 March. Sunshine Coast Council has also issued a call for design consultancy services regarding the Maroochydore City Centre evolution, as operations transition to an in-house governance model to streamline future development.
