Official City Roundup: Friday, 27 February 2026

As the final weekend of February approaches, Sunshine Coast residents are advised of several active public service announcements, health monitoring requirements, and essential infrastructure projects currently impacting the region. This notice serves as a consolidated guide for Friday, 27 February 2026.

Public Health Alert: Measles Symptom Monitoring

Queensland Health continues to urge vigilance following a confirmed measles case identified earlier this month. While no new exposure sites have been added this week, the 18-day symptom monitoring period remains active for anyone who visited the following locations at Sunshine Coast University Hospital (SCUH) between February 11 and February 16, 2026:

  • SCUH Emergency Department (Late evening February 11 to early morning February 12)
  • SCUH Child and Adolescent Ward (February 12 to February 15)
  • SCUH Paediatric Critical Care Unit (February 15 to afternoon February 16)

Residents who were present at these sites should remain alert for early symptoms, including fever, tiredness, runny nose, and a moist cough, followed by a blotchy red rash. If symptoms develop, health officials emphasize the importance of phoning your GP or the 13 HEALTH service before visiting a clinic to prevent further transmission.

Major Infrastructure: Alexandra Headland Coastal Pathway

Construction is officially underway on the $4.2 million upgrade to the Alexandra Headland Coastal Pathway. The project, which commenced earlier this month, is currently focused on the section connecting the Alex Bluff Foreshore to the Northern Parklands in Mooloolaba. Pedestrians and cyclists should note that works include the installation of a new 3.5-metre-wide shared pathway and an elevated timber boardwalk. Site fencing is in place, and users are requested to follow all detour signage to ensure safety during this six-month construction phase.

Road Maintenance and Resealing Schedule

Council maintenance crews are currently active in several divisions as part of the annual road resealing program. Motorists should anticipate minor delays and potential lane closures at the following locations today:

  • Buderim: Resealing works are active on Bluebush Avenue and Guy Avenue. Work is expected to continue through next week.
  • Flaxton: Ongoing road surface improvements on Ensbey Road are nearing the halfway point of a scheduled two-week duration.
  • Buderim (Division 7): Maintenance crews are performing road surface line marking across various local streets.

Community Opportunities and Planning

Sunshine Coast schools are reminded that expressions of interest for the 2026 Mayor’s Telstra Innovation Masterclass Series remain open for students in Years 8 to 10. Additionally, following the Ordinary Meeting held yesterday at City Hall, Council has officially moved to bring the operations of SunCentral in-house to streamline future development within the Maroochydore City Centre. Residents interested in long-term planning are also encouraged to view the newly released 2026 Horizon Festival program, which is now available for public review ahead of the May event series.
